Linda Hess’s life-work has centered on the words of Kabir in both written and oral traditions. Her books include The Bijak of Kabir, with Shukdev Singh; Singing Emptiness: Kumar Gandharva Performs the Poetry of Kabir; and Bodies of Song: Kabir Oral Traditions and Performative Worlds in North India. She retired in 2017 after teaching for 21 years in Stanford’s Department of Religious Studies.

Peter Friedlander is honorary Associate Professor, School of Culture, History and Language, the Australian National University. His PhD was on The life works of Raidas (1992) and publications are on the relationship between religion and society and his current research is on Raidas. His most recent book is Kabir Poems in Transformation: A Fountain of Creativity (2023).

Philip Lutgendorf is Professor Emeritus of Hindi and Modern Indian Studies at the University of Iowa and former President of the American Institute of Indian Studies. He is author of several works on the Ramayana tradition and Hanuman. His translation of Rāmcaritmānas has appeared in seven volumes as The Epic of Ram (Murty Classical Library of India, 2016-2023).

Jaroslav Strnad graduated in History and Hindī at Charles University, Prague. He worked between 1979-1998 as consultant and co-author of the first Hindī-Czech Dictionary and in his PhD thesis, he analysed Monetary History of Mughal India as Reflected in Silver Coin Hoards (2001). In Morphology and Structure of Old Hindī (2013), he focuses on the premodern period.
