Measuring Voting Behaviour in India: Book Release

Measuring Voting Behaviour in India co-authored by Sanjay Kumar and Praveen Rai was released on 17 April 2013 at India International Centre. The release was followed by a discussion on the book. The discussants were Sudha Pai, Rajdeep Sardesai and James Manor. The book captures the dynamics of multiple methodologies used for measuring voting behavior in India in the past and present. The authors elaborate on various methods that are used for measuring voters’ opinions, attitudes, and perceptions. The book is an in-depth analysis of the political and ideological reasoning as well as socio-political factors which constitute electoral behaviour.

Sanjay Kumar is a Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) and Co-Director of Lokniti, a research program of the CSDS, Delhi. His research areas have been electoral politics with a special focus on patterns and strategies of electoral mobilization.

Praveen Rai is Academic Secretary at CSDS. His key areas of research are election studies with a special focus on the states of Haryana and Chhattisgarh, participation of Indian women in electoral politics, and media monitoring.
