Viren Murthy delivered a lecture on ‘Beyond Universality and Particularity: Moishe Postone and the Possibilities of Jewish Marxism’ on 9 January 2019 at CSDS. Marx has been notorious for failing to deal with religion and for being especially hostile Judaism.  Marxists tended to see Jewish identity as particularistic and encouraged Jews to negate their particular identity and strive to be universally human.

Nicholas Adams delivered a lecture on ‘Can International Relations Survive the Resurgence of Religion?’ on 4 October 2018 at CSDS. The lecture was chaired by Siddharth Mallavarapu. The discipline of International Relations has over the last ten years seen a reorientation to the question of religion.

The 20th B. N. Ganguli Memorial Lecture was delivered by Leela Gandhi on ‘If This Were A Manifesto For Postcolonial Thinking’ on 26 September 2018 at CSDS. The lecture was chaired by Prathama Banerjee. B. N. Ganguli Memorial Lectures are instituted in memory of the distinguished economist Professor B. N. Ganguli, former Chair, CSDS Board of Governors.

Applications are invited for ‘Violence and Democracy: UK-India Early Career Research Workshop’ to be held between 28-30 November 2018 at CSDS. The last date for receiving the applications closed on 14 September 2018.  This workshop is an interdisciplinary symposium organised by the British Academy in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (Delhi) on the theme of violence and democracy.

Yigal Bronner delivered the 4th C R Parekh Memorial Lecture on ‘Dandin’s Open Mirror’ on 30 August 2018 at India International Centre, New Delhi. The lecture was organized by Institute of Indian Thought, CSDS. Dandin’s Mirror of Literature (K?vy?dar?a) is one of the most influential texts on poetics in world history.
