Viren Murthy delivered a lecture on ‘Beyond Universality and Particularity: Moishe Postone and the Possibilities of Jewish Marxism’ on 9 January 2019 at CSDS. Marx has been notorious for failing to deal with religion and for being especially hostile Judaism. Marxists tended to see Jewish identity as particularistic and encouraged Jews to negate their particular identity and strive to be universally human.

This workshop is an interdisciplinary symposium organised by the British Academy in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (Delhi) on the theme of violence and democracy.

The lecture was organized by Institute of Indian Thought, CSDS. Dandin’s Mirror of Literature (K?vy?dar?a) is one of the most influential texts on poetics in world history.
