Digital political campaigning on social media has become a pivotal tool in modern elections, with platforms like Facebook enabling parties to target voters with unprecedented precision. In India, digital campaigning has surged across both national and sub-national elections.  Drawing on data from the DigiCamp and Propaganda Project at the National University of Singapore, this study examines political parties’ Facebook campaigns during the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as well as Facebook ads in three sub-national elections, to analyze how incumbency, personalization, and issue-focus shape campaign strategies. By examining these dynamics, our study sheds light on how digital campaigning varies across electoral contexts, challenging established assumptions about campaign behavior in India.

Taberez Ahmed Neyazi is Associate Professor and Director of Digital Campaign Asia project in the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore. He has authored Political Communication and Mobilisation: The Hindi Media in India (Cambridge University Press, 2018) and published several journal articles and book chapters.
