Rajni Kothari Lectures are instituted in honour of the CSDS Founder Director Professor Rajni Kothari. Earlier speakers in the series include Professors Sudipta Kaviraj, Gananath Obeysekere, Rounaq Jahan and Abdellah Hammoudi.

Charles Taylor is one of the most eminent philosophers in the world and is Co-Chair of the prestigious Consultation Commission on Accommodation Practices Related to Cultural Differences of the Canadian government. He was Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory at Oxford University and Professor of Political Sciences and Philosophy at the McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where he is currently professor emeritus.

He has obtained numerous awards that include the Prix Léon-Gérin by the Québec government (1992), the Templeton Prize (2007) and the Kyoto Prize (2008). He was made a Grand officier of the Ordre national du Québec and a Companion of the Order of Canada. Among his many books are  Hegel (1975), Hegel and Modern Society (1979), Philosophical Papers (2 vols., 1985), Sources of the Self: The Making of Modern Identity (1989), The Malaise of Modernity (1992), Multiculturalism: Examining the Politics of Recognition (1994), Philosophical Arguments (1995), and A Secular Age (2007)

D.L. Sheth is Honorary Distinguished Fellow at CSDS and is the editor of the journal Alternatives: Global, Local, Political. He worked as President of People’s Union for Civil Liberties in Delhi (1991-93) and was appointed Member (Social Scientist) to the National Commission for Backward Classes (1993-96)
