The addition of sound in Alam Ara resulted in the creation of a new item-the Film Song, and it immediately became the absolutely indispensable ingredient of this entertainment media. This episode uses audio-visual aids to discuss the first talkie film of India, and the birth of the Film Song that revolutionized the industry.
Sudhir Kapur is an IT professional with a deep penchant for Hindi films and songs. He is a serious collector of these and other associated historical artefacts. He regularly writes about the film songs and the artists who have created them. He is the co-administrator of the Atul-Song-A-Day – a blog that is dedicated to documenting popular Hindi film and music.
