Associate Fellow
Awadhendra Sharan trained as a historian at Delhi University and subsequently at the University of Chicago where he conducted research on The Question of Untouchability in Colonial Bihar, 1860s to 1950s. His current research is on strategies of environmental improvement and their entanglement with the project of urban modernity in colonial and postcolonial Delhi. Issues of water and air pollution, nuisance and congestion, planning and risk management are addressed in the study.
Sharan is involved with several collaborative projects, most recently as Coordinator/ researcher with projects on ‘Peri-Urban Sustainability’ (with IDS, Sussex) and ‘Difference, Danger and New Urban Imaginaries’ (with University of Heidelberg).
Sharan has offered guest lectures at the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi and School of Environmental Studies, Delhi University.
