A workshop is being held on 18th-19thFebruary 2010 at CSDS Conference Hall, Delhi on the subject ‘Situating Subalternity in South Asian Medicine’, convened by Shail Mayaram (CSDS) and Helen Lambert (Bristol University).
This workshop will be held on both the days from 9.30 AM to 7 PM in the evening. It follows on from a previous workshop on this topic held in the Centre for the History of Medicine, University of Warwick, U.K. on 7-8th May 2009 and convened by David Hardiman (Warwick), together with Projit Mukharji (Oxford Brookes University), Guy Attewell (University College London) and Helen Lambert. The aim of both events is to set out the terms and conditions for a field of study that sets itself apart from most of the existing studies in South Asian medical history and historically-informed social science, which focus either on the history of biomedicine, particularly colonial biomedicine, or the classical systems of Ayurveda, Unani Tibb, and Siddha as practised by elite South Asian physicians.
All persons interested in participating in the workshop may please contact Praveen Rai, Academic Secretary, CSDS on praveenrai@csds.in
